InRumor.com – that’s the website I’m talking about – published recently a rumor regarding Christina Aguilera’s car accident. They say that “despite the accident, Christina seemed to be in a cheery Christmas spirit, laughing and smiling while she waited for another car to take her home“. That’s a nice thing about Christina; she always takes the hard moments in her life with a smile on her face.

The violinist received his first dollar: a woman threw the money in the hat and, without stopping, continued to walk.

6 minutes:

A young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started to walk again.

10 minutes:

A 3-year old boy stopped but his mother tugged him along hurriedly. The kid stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. Every parent, without exception, forced their children to move on quickly.

45 minutes:

The musician played continuously. Only 6 people stopped and listened for a short while. About 20 gave money but continued to walk at their normal pace. The man collected a total of $32.

1 hour:

He finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.

About Joshua BellJoshua Bell made his Carnegie Hall debut in 1985 with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra. He has since performed with almost all of the world’s major orchestras and conductors. As well as the standard concerto repertoire, Bell has performed new works — Nicholas Maw’s violin concerto is dedicated to him, the recording of which won Bell a Grammy and gave the world premiere of the work in 1993. He performed the solo part on John Corigliano’s Oscar-winning soundtrack for the film The Red Violin and was also featured in Ladies in Lavender. Bell also made an appearance in the movie Music of the Heart, a story about the power of music, with other notable violinists.

No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written (“Chaconne” from Johann Sebastian Bach’s Partita No. 2 in D Minor), with a violin worth $3.5 million dollars (a Gibson ex Huberman Strad handcrafted in 1731 by Antonio Stradivari). Two days before Joshua Bell sold out a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100.

This is a true story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people’s priorities.

The questions raised:

In a common place environment at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty?
Do we stop to appreciate it?
Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context?

One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be this:
If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments ever made.

What’s the right thing to do?

Close-up 1:

The front face of the train was created in its own file. The reflections in the windows were added once the train was placed in position within the overall image.
The side of the train car was created in a separate file. Duplicating that file made it easy to add additional cars.
The duplicates required changing the reflections in the windows, the accumulated grime and the car numbers to make each car appear different.

Symbols, text and logos were created in Adobe Illustrator.

The grime was created with Spatter brushes, available within the Photoshop brushes palette, which were modified to randomize the effect.
The rust was created with the same Spatter brushes but with Color Dynamics applied. The rust was in a separate layer that was also given a layer style of Inner Shadow to add the dimensional effect of the rust appearing under peeled paint.

“I am very surprised and still can not believe it,” Mueller said in a statement released by her publisher in Germany, where she is widely renowned. “I can’t say anything more at the moment.”

Peter Englund, the permanent secretary of the Swedish Academy, told The Associated Press this week that the secretive Swedish Academy had been too “eurocentric” in picking winners.His predecessor, Horace Engdahl, stirred up heated emotions across the Atlantic when he told the AP in 2008 that “Europe still is the center of the literary world” and the quality of U.S. writing was dragged down because authors were “too sensitive to trends in their own mass culture.”

After Mueller was announced, Englund told AP that “If you are European (it is) easier to relate to European literature. It’s the result of psychological bias that we really try to be aware of. It’s not the result of any program.”

Mueller, 56, made her debut in 1982 with a collection of short stories titled “Niederungen,” or “Nadirs,” depicting the harshness of life in a small, German-speaking village in Romania. It was promptly censored by the communist government. In 1984 an uncensored version was smuggled to Germany, where it was published and devoured by readers. That work was followed by “Oppressive Tango” in Romania but she was eventually prohibited from publishing inside her country for her criticism of dictator Nicolae Ceausescu’s rule and its feared secret police, the Securitate. “The Romanian national press was very critical of these works while, outside of Romania, the German press received them very positively,” the Academy said. Emilia Marta, a 55-year-old teacher who moved into the house in Romania’s Transylvania Banat region where Mueller was born, said the author has yet to return. But the mayor of the 1,600-person village of Nichtidorf said she is welcome anytime and would be greeted with honors. “If she will accept this, of course,” Ioan Mascovescu said.

Mueller, whose father served in the Waffen SS during World War II and whose mother spent five years in a Soviet work camp, is the third European to win the prize in a row and the 10th German, joining Guenter Grass in 1999 and Heinrich Boell in 1972.

Though Englund said the award was not timed to coincide with the 20th anniversary of the fall of communism, that’s how it was perceived by many observers. “By giving the award to Herta Mueller, who grew up in a German-speaking minority in Romania, (the committee) has recognized an author who refuses to let the inhumane side of life under communism be forgotten,” said Michael Krueger, head of Mueller’s publisher Hanser Verlag.

Mueller emigrated to Germany with her husband in 1987, two years before Ceausescu was toppled from power amid the widening communist collapse across eastern Europe.

“This prize is the international recognition of the oppression of what happened in Romania and Eastern Europe,” said Romanian actor Ion Caramitru, an anti-communist who rode atop a tank to the television station in Bucharest during the 1989 revolt and now heads the country’s national theater.

Most of Mueller’s work is in German, but some works have been translated into English, French and Spanish, including “The Passport,” “The Land of Green Plums,” “Traveling on One Leg” and “The Appointment.”

Mueller’s latest novel, “Atemschaukel,” or “Swinging Breath” is up for this year’s German Book Prize, which will be announced Monday.

Mueller is the 12th woman to win the Nobel Prize in literature. Recent female winners include Austria’s Elfriede Jelinek in 2004 and British writer Doris Lessing in 2007.

It’s the first time four women have won Nobel Prizes in the same year. U.S.-based researchers Elizabeth Blackburn and Carol Greider were among the medicine winners and the chemistry prize included Israel’s Ada Yonath.

The prize includes a 10 million kronor ($1.4 million) prize and will be handed out Dec. 10 in the Swedish capital.

Anyway, the problem was simple and quite stunning. I had installed – like many others – Deamon Tools. Yeap, that’s right. That tiny-tiny software which enables you to mount CD images to a virtual drive on your computer. They told me to uninstall Daemon Tools first, then restart, then activate. And it worked! Yeeeeyyy

So, again, the steps are:

• Before uninstalling Daemon Tools, go to Start > Run (Win Key + R) and type “msconfig“. The System Configuration will appear. Click on the Startup Tab and deselect Daemon Tools from the list. Restart your computer.
• Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features, search for Daemon Tools and uninstall it.
• Restart your computer.
• You are ready to activate now. You can do that in many ways. What I did was to go to Start > (Right-Click on) Computer and Properties. In the System window which appears, under Windows Activation, click Activate Windows and type your Key (which you’re supposed to have from microsoft.com, when you downloaded the Windows 7 RC).
• That’s it!

It has no link with the story above but this homeless street musician plays and sings “The Thrill is Gone” with a soulful quality that rivals the great BB King himself. And the thrill is gone for good. After 13 hard years on the street, the performer you see here in the video finally “made it”. He was discovered and signed to a record deal.
The excitement proved too much. Three weeks later the man was dead of a heart attack. May this beautiful voice R.I.P.

Call me paranoid but I think that’s a cool coverage for a widely spread campaign (which I totally support) on liberating Iran. A similar campaign is made on Twitter – Help Iran Election. I mean, yes, it’s cool with the green new wave, saving the planet, whales, endangered species and so on but I think a subversive orchestrated campaign is more likely to exist.
