Close to the entrance into the building, two homeless guys – one of them I guess is their Boss – both drugged and dizzy, stayed seated on the sidewalk, shoulder to shoulder. What impressed me, somehow, was that the Boss read and explained to the other guy – who probably doesn’t know how to read – a story about a frog. I didn’t managed to see the book he was reading, but the way he explained the story was like for a small child.
“- So, the mother-frog walked into the room and asked to see his father.” And then he explains: “Do you see where they’re heading? The bitch-queen didn’t want her around him.”
The care that the Boss had, to make sure the listener understands, was quite touching. Given the circumstances in which they were, knowing what kind of life are having, reading a story about a frog felt very unusual but gave them a human face.

It has no link with the story above but this homeless street musician plays and sings “The Thrill is Gone” with a soulful quality that rivals the great BB King himself. And the thrill is gone for good. After 13 hard years on the street, the performer you see here in the video finally “made it”. He was discovered and signed to a record deal.
The excitement proved too much. Three weeks later the man was dead of a heart attack. May this beautiful voice R.I.P.
